What is your finest fashion moment?
(Emma Thomas)

You cannot be dressed in a home-made copy of a Mickey Mouse® jumper without being painfully aware that you possess nothing but a representation of the original. My grandma spent time searching out the correct colours
of wool and department store patterns in an attempt to replicate unaffordable (and rather poor-quality) originals. When I was eight, it seemed cool to have the same jumper as other kids. The lovely thing about a wardrobe of replica fashion icons is the details that went missing or were distorted in translation. In grandma’s redraw of my jumper, it just reduced the image to a sign – an acknowledgement
that the original existed, but mine was more unique.
