PERFORMA 07 is a Biennial for Visual Art Performance in New York City.

Our inspiration for PERFORMA came from where we had our first meeting. It took place at the 51st Venice Art Biennale – observing the movement of masses of art tourists in different directions – gave us a sense of flux and confusion. We used this idea to develop the PERFORMA 05 Biennial identity with of a mass of drawn arrows moving in different directions on various printed matter. For PERFORMA 07 we wanted to keep the arrows and movement but to develop a new graphic arrow as a familiar but new look.

With a series of typographic quotes from artists and curators on performance art we could spread awareness of the biennial, communicate what makes this biennial unique and question the role of performance art. As with any biennial or group show it is difficult to isolate one artists work to represent the diversity of work. So typography seemed the perfect solution.
