THE ARCHITECTS JOURNAL
EMAP Communications, London

We redesigned The Architects’ Journal, a weekly journal in 2005. It was a challenging project to re-design a magazine with such a heritage and pace, and we were really passionate about the subject matter and content-led editorial

Our inspiration was drawn from found and collected journals. We created a simple design to illustrate the content of this magazine using straightforward language and a clean but ephemeral layout of images, exploring ideas which the editor was pushing in the content, for example, showing a building in its progressive state from sketches and plans, to its use 10 years later. On some pages the images overlap each other and at some points hang from the line as though pinned up on the wall in an Architect’s Crit.
